The New Zealand Marina Operators Association Inc. (NZMOA) is the national trade association for the marina industry and its suppliers. NZMOA is a non-profit, volunteer organisation composed of almost all the coastal and waterway marinas around New Zealand, as well as a number of boatyards and commercial members whose firms supply products and services to marinas. NZMOA member companies range from small family owned and operated companies to large corporations, and includes a variety of business types, including not-for-profit societies, private companies, and local authority enterprises. Associate members include equipment manufacturers, government agency interests, consultants, insurance and engineering firms and suppliers.
NZMOA was originally organised in the early 1980s by a small group of marina operators from around the country with a mission to improve, protect, and advance the interest of the marina industry nationwide. The impetus came from a need to begin working collaboratively in a fast-changing regulatory landscape that threatened to overwhelm individual operators with bureaucracy, compliance costs, taxes and fees.
Over time, other benefits of formalising the Association emerged and NZMOA became registered as an Incorporated Society in February 1996. Members come together for key events to share ideas, knowledge and experiences and to be informed about changes in legislation and regulation affecting the industry. NZMOA is governed by an executive board elected by the members, with board members serving in a voluntary capacity. The executive involves NZMOA in a range of activities for the mutual benefit of all within the industry, including lobbying central and local government, making submissions to key pieces of legislation and regulation, facilitating training opportunities and working alongside government departments on a range of initiatives, such as the "New Zealand Clean Marinas" environmental accreditation project.
NZMOA members provide tens of thousands of recreational boaties each year the wide variety of goods and services, ranging from sheltered berths and public boat ramps, to fuel, oil and chandlery sales, boat repairs and food and lodging, that allow recreational boating to continue to grow in popularity with New Zealanders of all ages. |
